I built Active Transport because I was tired of writing my own practice questions every time my school's lecture material didn't line up with UWorld. The version you see today started as a personal tool and grew from there.
The standard med-school workflow is: read your school's notes, watch UWorld videos, do UWorld questions, hope the topics overlap. They usually don't — especially in pre-clinical years where every school teaches the same material in a different order. Active Transport closes that gap. You upload the actual notes you're being tested on, and within seconds you get NBME-style practice questions on that exact material, matched to a curated qbank of 12,000+ physician-validated questions and supplemented with fresh AI for anything not yet covered.
Active Transport is not a replacement for UWorld. UWorld is the gold standard for graded prep and you should keep using it. Active Transport is the supplement — the tool for everything in between UWorld sessions: lecture material, school-specific PDFs, your own scratchwork.
The bulk of the qbank comes from a curated, physician-validated NBME-style question bank we adopted under permission and integrated into the platform. Every question is tagged by USMLE organ system and discipline, which is what powers the "smart topic matching" you see when you upload notes. We also add fresh AI-generated questions on demand for anything the curated bank doesn't already cover.
Most question-bank tools are $300–$500 a year. Active Transport is $100/year — a third the price of UWorld and well below AMBOSS — because the goal right now is to grow the user base, not maximize per-user margin. We can sustain this price because the smart-matching layer pulls most of your questions from our cached 12k qbank instead of regenerating fresh every time, which keeps API costs in check.
